5G Internet In Pakistan: All You Need To Know(Launch Date, Cities and Speed)
In today's digital era, the way technology has developed, 80 percent of human activities have become digital. And if we talk about the digital world, it is impossible not to mention the Internet. If you live in Pakistan, then you must have been very worried about the slow speed of the Internet or you still are, but now your worries about Internet speed are going to end soon.
There is great news for Pakistan. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has successfully completed the auction of 5G spectrum in the country.
In this article, we will discuss when 5G is being launched in Pakistan, in which cities it will come first, and what will be its speed.
What is 5G Technology?
5G refers to the Fifth Generation (5th Generation) mobile network. It provides much faster speed, better connectivity and very low latency (buffering or delay) compared to the Fourth Generation (4G). This clearly shows that if a file was downloaded in minutes at 4G speed, it will be downloaded in seconds in 5G. This will save you valuable time, your phone battery will not run low quickly and above all, you will not be frustrated.
Current Status of 5G in Pakistan (2026):
In March 2026, PTA held a major auction of $507 million in which the country's top telecom operators participated:
- Jazz: secured the highest 190 MHz spectrum.
- Zong: secured 110 MHz spectrum.
- Ufone: secured 180 MHz spectrum.
Along with this, 5G testing sites have been activated in major cities of the country (Blue Area and Red Zone of Islamabad) and telecom companies are rapidly setting up their infrastructure. It is expected that the commercial rollout will start by August 2026.
Which cities will get 5G in the first phase?
Like every new technology, 5G will be launched first in major cities and provincial capitals of Pakistan.
The cities included in the first phase are:
1. Islamabad
2. Rawalpindi
3. Karachi
4. Lahore
5. Peshawar
6. Quetta
7. Faisalabad
8. Multan
Speed of 5G:
Role of Optical Fiber at Back-End:
Most people think that since mobile service comes from a wireless tower, what is the role of optical fiber cables in it? But the truth is that it is very important to have a solid network of optical fiber cables at the back-end to connect 5G towers and manage high-speed data transfer.
Fiberization is currently being done rapidly in Pakistan to handle the load of 5G.
Conclusion:
The arrival of 5G in Pakistan will greatly facilitate the digital economy, freelancers, and students. Although it may take a year or two for the network to be fully stable across the country, its launch is a great step towards the country’s digital future.
