A Complete Guide to Optical Fiber: Structure, Splicing, Protection and Uses,
Optical Fiber:
Fastest Data Transmission and the Future of Modern IT, What is Optical Fiber? Optical fiber is a wire that is used to transmit light signals from one place to another. It is the backbone of various technical IT tasks. It works on the basis of light which makes data transfer extremely fast. You can understand it in this way that just like electricity runs in copper or silver wires, in the same way in the modern era we use optical fiber for the fastest data transmission.
Uses in Internet and Networking:
Nowadays, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are using optical fiber because it is 100 times faster and more reliable than older category wires (Cat 5, 6, 6e). It also has a range 100 times greater than copper wires, which is why it is the first choice of experts for transmitting data over long distances.
CCTV Camera and Monitoring:
It is also used in CCTV camera installation. The cameras installed in city centers or traffic signals around you are often running through this same fiber. The advantage of this is that even though the monitoring room is several hundred kilometers away, the result is very clear and sharp.Structure (Layers) of Optical Fiber: Optical fiber consists of 4 layers that protect it from breaking in all weather and harsh conditions:
Outer Layer: This is insulation made by melting plastic at high degrees Celsius.
Protective Layer:Inside this insulation is a silk or steel wire that protects the wire from stretching or breaking so that moisture, water and soil inside the ground cannot damage it.
Plastic Tube: Inside it is a special tube that contains fiber cores.
Special Chemical or Gel: Inside the tube is a special type of gel that protects the cores from shocks and bends.
Precautions for Technicians:
Trained workers take special care of two things while installing fiber on poles: The fiber is kept at least 2 to 3 feet below the power lines so that there is no effect of electricity. Since it works on light signals, the wire is not twisted too much. If the wire is twisted too much, the light is reflected outside the cores, which weakens the signal. Important: It is mandatory to use alcohol to clean the gel that comes out while cutting the fiber, otherwise if it gets on clothes or hands, it is not easily cleaned with ordinary soap or surf.
Splicing Method:
The signal of optical fiber is measured in dB. If the wire breaks, an expensive "splicing machine" is used to connect it.
First, the insulation is removed and the cores are safely removed. They are then cleaned with alcohol pads to remove the gel.The colored coating (such as blue or orange) on the cores is removed with a special stripper. Then, the core is cut exactly with the help of a "cleaver" so that the machine can connect it.The cores on both sides are connected in the machine and then the connection is secured with the help of "heat sleeves" and sealed in a box.
Helping Tools for Splicing Fiber:
2: Cleaver: Cleaver is the most important and most sensitive thing for splicing fiber, beacuse if this not work properly Spicing Machine won't Splice the core. It has to be clean while cutting the Fiber Core.
3: Optical Power Meter: Optical Power Meter used to measure Fiber signal, Optical Power Meter measure signal in DB. It is also used for passing Lasser in Optic Fiber.
Famous companies: The largest production in the world is in China. Some famous brands are as follows:Li-Tech (best quality)BaynetHi-TechU-Tech
Conclusion: As technology advances, human time is being saved. If you are still using the internet over old wires, you should immediately migrate to optical fiber for the best service.
